In a home far from mine, people come and go like waves that ebb and flow along the shore. Animals roam, clothes and dishes are dirtied and then cleaned; light brightens then softens. Change is natural; welcomed here. And yet, the home remains grounded in its identity. Similar to a sturdy home, the soul is ever-changing and evolving. Every second, whether awake or asleep, our hearts and minds evolve, bringing a deeper understanding of ourselves and our overall purpose in the world that has been so gracioulsly given to us.

As an artist in residence at Orto Creative Hub, located in rural Fornelo, Portugal, I have been seeking a more complex understanding of myself without the influence of others. In that search, I have chosen to paint as many corners of the home as I can, as they transform with every passing day. Working quickly, with minimal layers and more intentional brushstrokes, I am letting go of the industry pressure that I feel is constantly expecting something from me. With this comes more breath, more movement, and more life. I seek a tighter grasp of my personal and artistic voice.
